THE DATAFICATION/DIGITIZATION OF THE EVERYDAY
IN THE GLOBAL SOUTH

Access to digital technologies in the Global South has been on the rise in the last few decades. My work in this area has focused on exploring how various digital technologies are enmeshed into the everyday, from practices of radio listening to broader media and democratic participation. Overall, this body of work helps explain puzzles such as the persistence of ‘old media’ like radio while contributing to our understanding of emergent ways that digital platforms are being used outside of the dominant Euro-American contexts documented in Communication and Media Studies.

The following projects fall under this broad remit:

Socio-Technical Practices of Digital Technology and innovation (NSF funded)

Data practices and protections in Africa (with Internews)
